Alliance Française Aix-Marseille Provence

The Alliance Française Aix-Marseille Provence, created in 1889, is a non-profit-making association recognised as being in the general interest, areligious and apolitical, at the heart of a worldwide network of more than 800 establishments in 133 countries, run by the Fondation des Alliances Françaises which is its first partner.

Its mission, like for all the Alliances, is to promote and disseminate the French language and French-speaking cultures throughout the world.

Unique network of its kind, the Alliance Française was created in 1883 in Paris under the aegis of Paul Cambon and Pierre Foncin, around personalities such as Jules Verne, Louis Pasteur, Ferdinand de Lesseps, Armand Colin and Ernest Renan.

The Alliances Françaises have in common the pursuit of three essential missions:

  • To offer French language courses, in France and throughout the world, for all kind of public.
  • To make French and Francophone cultures better known
  • Fostering cultural diversity

The Alliances françaises share the values that make up the strength and life of the network and underlie each of their actions:

  • Respect for the diversity of cultures, passion for exchange and solidarity.
  • Associative values
  • Conviviality
  • The search for excellence in all activities undertaken
  • Modernity and innovation

Located in the centre of Aix-en-Provence and Marseille it welcomes more than 900 students of 85 differents nationalities every year. All the teachers are fully qualified and specialise in teaching French as a foreign language. Since 2007, the Alliance Française Marseille-Provence has been certified by the C.I.F.P. « Qualité Français Langue Etrangère ».
